AT ST. FRANCIS UNIVERSITY

I’m so fortunate to have been a part of this mutually beneficial program as the adjunct instructor since it’s inception in 2016. It has made an incredible impact on the university, students, shelter dogs, the shelter, the community, and also ourselves. Each year opens up innovative discoveries and goals that continue to change and shape how we work with animals to assist the lives of humans but to also enrich the lives of the animals involved.

“Let’s train shelter dogs and have them live on campus all semester with student handlers.” An idea inspired by a colleague and brought to life by the incredibly brilliant Dr. Shlomit Flaisher-Grinberg and myself with the help of our shelter partners and the support of the university. Primarily focusing on Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) we work with students and local shelter dogs through the semester to receive their AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification while exposing them to real world AAT learning opportunities
